Cuckoo is a small business selling clocks and watches. It currently only exists in a shop in Covent Garden, London. Cuckoo is thinking about starting to trade online and has asked you to help the company decide if this is a good idea and, if so how to go about it.
Task 1- P1
In a PowerPoint presentation you have been asked to explain the key points called Why E- commerce?
Explaining the technologies required for e-commerce and which might be needed for the client.
You will need to cover the following descriptions in your PowerPoint:
· Hardware & Software
· Webservers
· Browsers
· Cache
· Server Software
· Web Authorising Tools
· Networking
· Database Systems
· IP Address
· Domain Names
· Programming
· Download Speeds
Once you have described each of these you will then consider which are appropriate for Cuckoo .
Task 2- P2 &P3
Continue your PowerPoint add the following: Benefits of E-commerce for a Business referring to the client and the risks of E-commerce for a Business referring to the client.
You will need to consider the following Benefits:
· Global Marketplace
· 24/7 Trading
· Low start up and running costs
· Competitive edge
· Search facilities
· Pricing opportunities
· Gathering customer information
· Alternative income source
You will need to consider the following Drawbacks:
· Consumer Trust
· Delivery issues
· Lack of human contact
· Security issues
· Product description problems
· International Legislation
Task 3- P4
Create a leaflet that will accompany your presentation to provide the client with information on Legislation when setting up an E-commerce Business. Describe each of the major pieces of legislation to which all e-commerce businesses must adhere to.
You need to include:
· Data Protection Act (1998)
· Computer Misuse Act (1990)
· Consumer Credit Act (1974)
· Trading Standards
· Freedom of Information Act (2000)
· Copyright Legislation
· E-Commerce Regulations

Create a leaflet that will accompany your presentation to provide the client with information on Promotion when setting up an E-commerce Business. Describe the methods available to promote an e-commerce business and which you would recommend for the client.

· Site Names
· Direct Marketing
· Effective user interfaces
· Establishing customer loyalty

Create a leaflet that will accompany your presentation to provide the client with information on Security issues when setting up an E-commerce Business, and consider how the client can overcome these.

· Firewall impact on site performance

In your Report consider the following:
Write a short report to evaluate the use of e-commerce by the client, currently just a “bricks” company but hoping to become a “clicks” & “bricks” organisation, ensure you explain this terminology in your report and use reliable resources.
Analyse the “clicks” part of the company and discuss the key features and their potential to use this. Explain in full the advantages of more than just a traditional shop, but also highlighting some of the risks they may be faced with. Draw a conclusion by giving recommendations for the client.
